Period 7 Team Handball

We are well into our team handball season and I am very impressed with the participation of everyone in the class.  I have seen some epic goals and some amazing saves.  For this weeks blog let me know what strategies your team has developed to help you score in the games.

  1. My team benefits from a fastbreak where we have two players on just the goalie and also by passing quickly and shooting faster we will be able to score before the defense gets set.

  2. Pass the ball around until somebody gets an open shot and then they score

  3. Ball and Player Movement - It is essential that the entire team is on the move constantly to ensure the opposition will not be able to keep up. Also, if the ball is continuously moving from player to player, it keeps the opposing team on the move as well, generally confusing them on who to cover.

Accuracy - Not very much display of this so far, but it's getting there. It's very important that you're not just firing the ball at the goalie and thus giving up crucial scoring opportunities. The shot must be placed nicely and if it's not going to go in, pass instead.

  6. When the ball gets to the other team's goal, try to pass it around and fake out the goalie very close to the net. This makes it very easy to just find an opening and toss the ball in the goal.

  7. My team, the Frolicking Flamingoes always steals the ball from the other team in front of out own goal. Then half of our team goes on a counterattack and we usually score this way. Also runs out of the back really help the offense because the defense of the other team does not notice our defenders making a through run.

  8. My team benefits by making accurate long passes which turn into fast breaks and goals. We have a stellar defense which sets up into a "fortress" or fort. This makes shooting difficult for our opponent and we get the rebound and score off a fast break.

  9. Our team makes fast breaks to the goal, and then we pass it until someone has a clear shooting lane. On Defense, we play a zone and rely on good goaltending.

  10. My team benefits by our rock solid fortress wall. this tactic is when we make a wall of our whole team and have one player up high so when the ball is blocked by our fortress we have a fast break.

  11. My team keeps getting open and moves forward every time a pass is made. Once the other team has possession, we all go down to help the goalie out.

  12. My team scores most of the goals because of fast breaks. We like to make extra passes which catches the defense off guard leading us to score a goal. We try to make smart passes and move the ball around as much as we can.

Our team knows the strengths and weaknesses of all the players on the team, so we try to be as spread out as possible and when we see a player that we know has a good chance of catching and passing/shooting from the spot they are currently at, we make the pass.
