Period 3 Blog #7 Team Handball Questions

Team Handball, like hockey, is an invasion game, so the tactics we used to create space and attack the goal in hockey will carryover into team handball.  We this week we are going to add one new offensive tactic to help us attack the goal and one new defensive tactic to defend our goal.

The offensive tactic will be the give and go and the defensive tactic will be person to person defense. For this weeks blog, please answer the questions below about these two tactics.

Give and Go
1. How does a give and go work to get you open when attacking the goal?

2. What did you do to keep the defender from getting between you and the ball?

3. What does the passer need to do to help make the play a success?

Person To person Defense
1. What is the first thing you want to do in person to person defense?

2. If your player has the ball where should you be positioned at all times?

3. If your player does not have the ball what two things should you be able to see at all times?

  5. Give and Go
    1. The Give and Go helps you get open by fooling the defenders into thinking the person with the ball will shoot it(you or the other player), but the person with the ball actually passes the ball to another player. Then you or the person with the ball can run to an open space.
    2. I try to run in front of the defender so I will be between the person with the ball and the defender.
    3. The passer needs to perform an accurate pass to their teammate. This can mean throwing it over the head of the defender to his/her teammate, but only if the teammate is behind the defender. Whatever the case, the pass must reach his/her teammate.
    Person to Person Defense
    1. In person to person defense, the first thing you want to do when guarding someone is put your hands up so the receiver will have trouble catching the ball and you might even knock the ball out of its path inadvertently, stopping a pass and possibly a goal.
    2. If your player has the ball, at all times you should be in open space giving your player the possibility of passing the ball to you.
3.If your player does not have the ball you should be able to see the player you are defending and the ball at all times.

  13. 1) It works by tricking the defender and making them shift their focus to another player, and then draws the attention away from you so you can score.
