Team Games Blog #5 Hockey

We are well into our hockey unit.  The game of hockey is an invasion game and tactics we learn and use in this unit will be used in all invasion games units.  Look over the following five questions.  I want you to pick two of the five questions to answer based on what we have learned in class.

1. How can two people beat one defender?
2. How can a long pass help you?
3. How can players without the ball help a player who has the ball?
4. How can you make it hard for opponents to recieve the ball?
5. What do short passes do to the defender?

  16. 1.) The player with the puck can move toward the goal with the puck until he draws the defender close to him. When the defender has committed to him, the player with the puck can then pass to the now wide-open second player
3.) The player can either get to a open spot or draw defenders away from the player with the puck

  17. 3) The other players can move into open areas to help the player with the puck. Once the other players are in the open areas, the player with the puck can pass to them.

    5) Short passes confuse the defender because when they think that one player has the puck, it quickly moves to another player, then possibly another player, so they don't know where it's going to go.

  19. 1. With the advantage of having an extra player it is very easy to beat the defender. Passing the puck and then moving around the defender(moving off ball) forces the defender to play the person with the puck and leave you wide open for a pass past the defender.once the pass is made the defender has been beaten. In order to make sure that the pass is made without being intercepted the player moving off ball must remember to move to space where the defender is not able to step into the passing lane.
    3. Players with out the ball can help teammates who have the ball by spreading out and moving into space and away from defenders. That way if the person with the ball is being pressured and cannot maintain possession they have the option to pass it away.
