A Couple of Definitions

For this weeks blog, I want you to look up the following term.

Muscle Atrophy


Let me know in a sentence or two if you think you experienced any effects of this during your recent break.

  1. Muscle atrophy is defined as a decrease in the mass of the muscle; it can be a partial or complete wasting away of muscle. This did not happen to me at all over break because I was still lifting and therefore since I was still lifting, my gains were higher and I was able to lift more.

  2. Muscle atrophy is the wasting or loss of muscle tissue. I have experienced this when i was in the middle of the football season and i couldn't work out as often as I usually do so my muscle mass was less than in the beginning of the season and i couldn't lift as much for the first few weeks.

  3. Muscle atrophy is losing muscle mass due to lack of excersize and bad nutrition. This happened to me during break because i don't have acess to the gym across the street yet.

    Over the break I re-evaluated my training scheduel for motocross; I added a 4 mile run, sprints, and another 30+2 moto to every day. As a result, I can feel that my endurance is significantly better than it was prior to break.

  5. Muscle atrophy is defined sas a decrease in mass of muscle whether it is partial or complete. in this break i did not experience muscle atrophy because i continued to wokr out throughout the week. <3 <3

  7. Muscle Atrophy is when there is a decrese in muscle tissue due to the lack of consistant steady work of the muscle. I did not have much of a lost because I stayed very active over my break.

  12. Muscle atrophy is the decrease of muscle over a term of not working out. Though many students had experienced muscle atrophy I didn't because every morning over break I would do moderate tobata work outs for 15-20 minutes and actually experienced pretty good gains over break.

  15. Muscle Atrophy is defined as a decrease or decay in muscle mass over a gradual period, usually due to illness or inactivity. I experienced this a bit over break since I did not exercise my arms at all, only did squats/jog for my daily exercise. This is most likely why, when I got back from school, I found benching to be a lot harder even though it was weight that I typically found easy.

    I did not feel Muscle Atrophy since I still continued to workout during my break and be active everyday

  17. Muscle atrophy is loss of muscle mass due to disuse.
    I don't think I experienced the effects of muscle atrophy because my friend and I continued to exercise over break.

  18. Muscle atrophy is the loss of muscle mass because you don't use it.
    I have lost muscle mass in my arms and abs over break because I was not working out, but since I was walking a lot through cities, I walked an average of 2-6 miles per day and worked out my legs a lot.

  20. Muscle Atrophy is a decrease in muscle mass and can result from diseases, malnutrition, nerve damage, or just not using the muscle. I don't think I lost any muscle mass because I worked out over break.

    I did not experience this because I actually worked out over break more than I usually do in class so I gained muscle mass.

  23. Muscle Astropy is the loss in the mass of one's muscle due to not working out.
    I didtn't experience muscle astrophy beacuse I worked out for a few days, so when I came back I maintained my strength.

    Over the break I did not feel a significant muscle atrophy because I worked out when I had time to.

  26. Muscle atrophy is the wasting away of muscle tissue. I maintained an active work-out schedule throughout the spring break, so it is highly unlikely that I lost any tissue due to a lack of working out.

  28. Muscle atrophy is when your muscle mass wastes away due nto lack of use. During spring break I would believe that muscle atophy did take effect slightly on my body. I had a harder time with benching when i came home to work out. Although i did workout on vacation, i still think i didnt stay with it enough.

  29. Muscle atrophy is when your muscles become weaker because because you havent worked out for a while. During the break I feel that my muscles did get a little weaker because the workouts felt harder for me.

  32. During the break I experienced a small effect of muscle atrophy because I lost some strength strength since I didn't engage some of my muscles during the break. However, I didn't lose any muscle tissue that caused a significant decrease to my muscle sizes.

  33. I skied all break so i probably didn't lose any strength in my legs but i did no upper body work so i probably lost some in my upper body.

  35. I'm sure I experienced some amount of atrophy over break. I was doing exercises over break, but did not work to the extent that I needed to to maintain muscle across the board.

  36. Muscle atrophy is the lost in mass for muscle. I think I have lost a little amount over the break but, this means I just have to work harder.

  37. I think i experienced some muscle atrophy, because I did not do as much exercise as I typically do. I went to volleyball practice a few times, but I did close to no lifting. I'd like to blame the weather and my lack of equipment, but i know that it is only because of my lack of determination that I did not work out.

  42. Muscle atrophy is the loss of muscle mass. I don't feel i experienced this over break because i had soccer practice every other day and went for runs on the beach with my parents. But i when i came back i couldn't bench as much as i did before because it felt like 95's were quite heavy.

  43. Muscle atrophy is a decrease in the mass of muscle. I feel I did experience muscle atrophy because most of my max's decreased by a few reps/pounds, and in general my cardiovascular endurance suffered as well.

  44. Muscle atrophy is the decrease in muscle mass. Surprisingly I did not experience this over break, which tells me that while gaining muscle may be very difficult, maintaining muscles that you already have takes very little effort.

  51. Muscle atrophy is when muscle tissue breaks down due to under use or lack of use entirely. I noticed a bit of this when i returned from break, as i was sick for most of it, and unable to exercise.

    I did experience a little of this over the break since I did not lift weights. However, I started working again to gain that muscle back.

  64. I definetely throught that i lost muscle mass over spring break, granted i did come back heavier it was mostly fat. MyAlso my lifts especially my bench press got weaker.

  67. When I took my break, it was a break from everything. I decided to take time to have fun and relax while I still could. With that in mind, I'm almost certain I was subject to Muscle Atrophy due to my lack of keeping up with my exercises.

  68. It is a decrease in muscle mass. I dont think that it affected me during the break, since i did continue to do some exercise during the break which would have prevented atrophy.
