1. Smash: when the shuttlecock comes to you at a high level in the midcourt area, hitting it aggressively towards the opponent's floor, to finish the rally.
2. Clear: hitting the shuttlecock high to the opponent's backcourt. Clear shots are of two types - defensive clear and attacking clear.
3. Dropshot: Usually used after a clear (a far shot to the back of the court), is where the player gently taps the birdie over the net so it makes a player either....
a) hit the birdie high up into the air (a good drop shot is one that you can't smash).b)sprint forwards to try and reach.
4. Returning to base: After hitting a shot you shuld move quickly back to your base position to prepare for your opponents return.
base position: front and back (usually)
ReplyDeletethis way we can work to our advantages, because im good smashing shots and Johnathan's good at clearing shots or hitting to an open space. at the same time, its easier for the opponent to hit it to an open space since were leaving the sides of the court open
front and back
ReplyDeletethis is because the person (brett) in the back smashes it while the person (me)will be in the front dinks the birdie. we can get more hits and more space

Left and right
ReplyDeleteI stand on the right side of the court, and my partner stands on the left side, he is right handed and I'm left. So it is very easy to get shots that hit in the middle, but if someone hits it close to the left or right it is harder to hit. Also if the birdie is hit directly in the center it is harder to decides who hits it back

ReplyDeleteWe chose to play front and back. This way we wont have to worry about running to the front or back to hit the birdie. However it leaves our sides open and the opponent could use that against us.
Front and back
ReplyDeletethese postions are most effective becasue if the opponent clears the bride over the front players head then the back player can get it and if the oppnoent dinkks the birde then the front player will be right there to get it.

Front and back because we find it easier to hit the birdie no matter where it falls if we both are able to move left to right in whichever direction it falls in

We usually play side to side becuase that way we both divide the court equally (one player gets the left side and the other player gets the right side.) The equal division enables us to move within our own space and not bump into each other (like if we were trying to get a clear from the front of the court.)Also, side to side lets us both play and have fun, instead of one person getting the most shots in the front or back.

Our Base position is most likely going to be played with front and back because that way one player has a chance to hit the birdie back the first time, and even if he misses the birdie he they can still win the point because the person in the back is able to hit it back

We usually play side to side, because we find it easier to be able to back pedal if our opponent hits a deep shot or run forward if our opponent hits a dink. It would be harder for us to constantly run side to side to attack the birdie.-Zach Lowy
ReplyDeleteFor my group, we usually like to play side to side. This is because we both have good forehand returns and only on of us have a really good backhand so it works out well. Not only this, but both of us have good slams so it is convienant that we are both close to the net to have an equal chance to slam. - Brett Rudden
ReplyDeleteWe play side to side because let's both of us play the court without many limitations

Noah and I chose to play front and back. During many warm ups, practice games, and real games, Noah and
I tried out both base positions. When we played side to side, it was very difficult for us to win mainly because I would always cross the line thinking I could hit the cock, even tho it was not in my section. When I jumped towards the cock, I would realize that Noah could get it easier, so I would duck and let him hit the cock. However, by that time, Noah would already have lost his reflex to hit it back over, causing us to lose a point. This happened many times. Also, if somebody hit the cock very far back, and Noah and I were both standing side by side close to the net, the chances of us getting all the way to the back of the court before the cock landed on the ground were slim and none. Playing front and back helped us give each other a good amount of space to play, and less room for the cock to land in empty space.
I chose to play in a front and back formation. This formation prevents any confusion as to who will hit it that is commonly seen with pairs that play side to side. Even though communication can help we still found it hard to play in the side to side formation. We find it mainly advantagous to use this because we are able to reach both sides in time to return the shuttle so being front to back is the best way to play.

I play in a front to back formation because the person up front can get the easy low shots and the person in the back gets the rest. This is the best way to go in my opinion.

I play in a side to side position because my partner and I are equally skilled at returning low shots and high shots. Also, this gives us an opportunity to improve both of our skills.

I play in a front to back position. That way, i can dink it, while Diego can smash it. And neither of us are getting in the others way.
